Running with Scissors
As soon as it grew dark, I took off in our neighborhood, running with scissors. My quest was to bring home the prettiest bouquet for my mother. I was 10.
With scissors in one hand, I ran to and fro, hiding in the shadows. Snip, snip. My bouquet growing by the minute.
One rose here, two daisies there. One lily here, two zinnias there. And so on.
Snip, snip. Each bouquet unique, in season, sourced locally, and presented to my mother with love and pride.
