The first mile of the thousand miles walk.

First days of January, everybody is just starting fresh. To start fresh, and to correct objectives, to keep some things and habits and to get rid of some others. New Year offers us the opportunity to do so, so I grab it, I am starting fresh, let us see how to make my dreams come true!

As the year changes to a new one, we can all start anew; we can go along with change, we can embrace it. We can get drowned by the wave, or, we can surf it.

This year we start a new adventure, there will be ups and downs, we all must move to change the scenery, or it will change suddenly with us standing still. I aim to move quicker, boldly going to grab what the Universe has in store for me.
What is the message Reality, the Universe, God, or Your Higher Inner Self gave to you lately?
And, more important. What do you want?
Do you want to know more, read more, love more?
Do you want to put an end to suffering?
Perhaps you want to ¨stop surviving and start living¨.
My friend, no matter what your actual situation is, you can do that.

Change is wonderful! Because, at the same time that we begin to change, our environment changes with us. The best thing that can happen is to make those changes to go in the same direction as our dreams.

When writing things like these, you cannot resist the temptation to make lists, to put items on those lists going one by one, most people like lists, and they are prevalent in the blogosphere.

I resist making up a list with pieces of wisdom recollected somewhere on the Internet.

We are all starting an adventurous journey. Let start a thousand miles walk just walking the first mile.

For me, the first mile is to lay down a good plan with precise attainable objectives that can be measured. There is no good in starting to walk if you do not know where to go.
Those objectives should concur with my mission statement. That is a statement, put in writing that set aside the intention of the journey of our lives. I like writing, so my mission statement is not lengthy, but has all my personal history behind.

So to go on to a long walk, we fix our sight on some high or far point. That will be our yearly objective. So I start writing something like ¨Next Year the same January, 2nd I will be…¨

Let us think about what those dots will have. Realism is a good thing, but we can also dream (a little). Foremost, this objective is about me, and I cannot rely on the environment. The environment will play its part as we go along, as we walk, there will be rain and wind, and surely not always the wind will blow the way we go.

So next year I will be doing this or that no matter the weather, no matter the President, no matter the stars.

Of course, in our way, disaster can be waiting at the next turn. We, as humans, are very fragile, but our humanity is not. So after we set our goals, we should take inventory of our resources in case of setbacks. They call it risk management nowadays, but even our grandpas knew you must take the unexpected always into account.

So, we should give us time to revise, create, write, say, pray our mission statement.
We must answer just one question. Why are we here?

As an (almost) coach, I relish in having conversations with objectives on creating, or correcting, or clarifying our mission statement.

Creating or checking our mission statement is just one part of a more significant task because none of us is alone in the Universe. “No (wo)man is an island,” says the poem. We must put ourselves in our families, our neighborhood, our society, and we must get to know what are the collective journeys. We are and must be a positive part of those journeys.

The direction where we are going in your job, our family, our emotional partnerships mustn’t collide. If it is so, this is an optimal time to make decisions.

So, I will share my mission statement with my partners, to state where I am going, knowing that, as we share many values, it will not be very different from the journey they have traced.

Ok, let us start walking, we do not know what the journey will bring us, that is the definition of adventure. GodSpeed to you all.
