Grand Challenges

The four Grand Challenges are unlocking the mysteries of the universe, understanding the American experience, understanding and sustaining a biodiverse planet, and valuing world cultures. My field of education is physical education and health. The first challenge is the mysteries of the universe, I feel in my personal opinion that this has nothing to do with physical education or health. It is hard for me to relate this topic to my subject and at the moment have no connections to this challenge. Challenge number two is understanding the american experience. Physical education has a long history in the United States. Physical education was implemented to help students better take care of their bodies and teach them proper hygiene as well. It also increased when world war 2 was going on in the mid 1900’s. Third challenge is understanding and sustaining a biodiverse planet. This can relate to PE and health, because we can look how students health has changed and improved along with physical health. Lastly, challenge four, valuing world cultures. We tend to modify certain games, because to many they may be strange or usual to play in a PE class. By researching what other countries do for physical activities such as games, we can look back into their history and reinvent their past games into something new and exciting today.
