Living an Intentional Life

Today while I was taking a hike, I came across a beautiful thought. I related to the fact that I have been finding fault within my context.

I have failed to understand the beauty of the moment.

Right now, while I am typing this, I am sitting in a comfortable chair, typing way in my computer, while there is a cool breeze coming from a fan.

There is a light rain outside and I am armed with a hot cup of tea.

If I looked back at this moment, I may find many faults with this picture. I am wasting away my time, which I could have used to work on a money bringing project, I could have done few yoga poses etc etc.

But why are we always thinking that we could have done something better with our time. As a nation, I believe even as humans, we are always looking for the next thing. If we are enjoying a dinner, we may be thinking about all the other dishes we could have eaten, if we are exercising we might be thinking about getting a shower.

Most of the time, we are not aware of how easily we can just relax into the moment, only of we paid attention.

So may be my new year resolution should be about being mindful. Doing my best and siting back and enjoying it being fully present in the activity itself.

In Buddhism, This is called as “Yoniso Manasikaaraya”. We have to be in the moment. This provides a sense of calmness. We are not worried about future or we are worried about past.

We are as we are.

Maybe, we do not have to always look for the next thing, but to be content with this moment. This is a popular idea shared by many philosophers as: from Lord Buddha, Dalai Lama, Thich Nah Tanah, Eckhart Tolle etc.

What matters is the moment of now.
