The Evolution of Online Games

The human contact in a multi-player setting was the next step. DUNGEN was the first of these games. DUNGEN pitted players against one another as they attempted to accomplish a series of tasks. Each time the user signed in, DUNGEN gave new settings and players.

With more and more homes becoming computer aware, the video gaming craze began in the late 1970s. People began developing their own games for home computers as a natural corollary. These home-grown games were exchanged and sold in local markets by these programming hobbyists.

Home gaming devices that utilised game cartridges were another shift in the 1970s. This meant that instead of having huge gaming console systems, consumers could acquire game cartridges for a single base device.

The 1980s — a little respite before the storm

The video and computer game craze grew in popularity in the 1980s, but internet gaming was not yet a reality. New games with improved sound and visuals were released, and they quickly became popular. Pole Position and Pac-Man were two of the most popular games. Nintendo’s first video game console was released in the 1980s.

The revolution of the 1990s began.

Because of the emergence of 3-D and multimedia, the 1990s experienced amazing expansion in both popularity and technology.

The cerebral adventure game Myst was the first to use the CD-ROM format. FPS (first-person shooter) games like Quake were made possible by more advanced 3-D graphics hardware.

The exponential rise of the Internet, MUDs (multi-user dungeons), and online games exploded in popularity in the late 1990s. People from all around the world competed in FPS games, real-time strategy games (RTS games), and third-person games like Grand Theft Auto, thanks to new and enhanced graphics interfaces.

This was also the time when websites began to provide online games like tetris, ping pong, Mario Bros., Super Mario, and other free online flash and non-flash based games in exchange for registration. This cemented internet gaming’s place in the public consciousness.

The world is merely a playground in the twenty-first century.

The DVD-CD-ROM dominated the early years of the twenty-first century. It has altered the way people play online games. The latest gaming systems, such as Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox, have networking features that allow individuals from all over the world to play with each other in real time. Playing these online games is now feasible in the full sense of the term, thanks to exponentially rising broadband internet access.

The only disadvantage of online gaming technology’s rapid evolution is that what you buy now might be obsolete next year. Fortunately for devoted gamers, there is a sizable resale market for these online games. This resale market is simply one more facet of online gaming’s ever-changing past.
