that time i eavesdropped on a couple at Blue Moose

as sweat perspired on her forehead

and his eyes concentrated on her muddy pupils

they found themselves amidst darkness

with only shards of light dancing across their elastic bodies

they had not been aware of how much they meant to one another

until the room became more crowded,

the sweat became more persistent,

and her pupils became more dilated.

they hadn’t said it word for word,

but they had felt it beat for beat.

and they would’ve sprinted out of that dark room

into a darker one, if only the other had asked them to.

“tell me, what is your favorite thing to do.”

it was not a question, it was a command,

not a demanding command, but an example of intrigue instead.

“my favorite thing to do is paint.”

“so you’re an artist.”

again, not a question,

a statement of intrigue.

“i guess.”

confidence isn’t something that one can choose from their wardrobe

it is a trait that is built from the ground up.

so if you want to pull it from your wardrobe,

then you’ll have to go back to the beginning, and start from the ground up.

in a dark room, with ultra fluorescent beams randomly twitching

against you and your partner’s bodies, while you stare into her universal pupils.
